A little bit up...a little bit down

I haven't posted in so long, but then again who the hell has had time lately. I feel like I'm constantly running to catch up with myself and fill everyone's needs, and just be enough...enough for my husband (I'm sure he'd be yelling at me right now if he read this...lol) enough for each individual one of my kids, to make it so that they know what it is in life they need to do, and enough ...to just be happy sometimes. Every once in a while I stop for two seconds, as I'm hugging Jayden, and I think, "what in the hell made me think I could do this?"...I'm holding an individual human being, with likes, dislikes, needs, and until he's an adult, I'm responsible for ALL of it. Multiply it by four, and you get overwhelmed. I try not to let that two second interval enter into my daily existence, or you'll find me in the rubber room of the Royal Ottawa Hospital. I had this type of experience of feeling like I need to be enough to make it all right for everyone, once before. I think there's a connection to a husband having post tour issues, and children going through trying times, with my present feelings. Sometimes I feel like I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about and if they'd just goddamned listen things would work out right. Then the next moment I go....."who said that???" Thankfully (I think) I don't let that side out to play very often or we'd REALLY be in a mess. Women....who can figure em eh?

This post probably hasn't made a whole lot of sense this time around, and honestly...who the hell cares...it's working for me...lol

For my friends, the only two who ever really see this....thank you for being here when I log in every so often. Re....I won't bother commenting on your latest post, I'll just say that you don't need to do anything to be...."enough" for me, you're a GREAT girl, and I'm proud to know you, and I hope things get better, and smoother for you very soon!! I'll be here when they do :)

Freddy...you're just cute, and I'm glad you're there for her, and I also hope you guys get this stupid immigration crap worked out soon!!:)

It was BABY DAY today!!.....

"I get to experience SOMEONE ELSE give birth, and not only do I get to be there, and support my friend, but I'm also helping the midwife CATCH. I keep thinking I should go pick up that pink ballglove I saw the other day but somehow I don't think the humour in that would be appreciated...heehee"

What a fabulous exhilerating 24hrs it's been! As you can see I had an idea of how my week was supposed to play out. I was so dead off on that one it wasn't funny..LOL Yesterday late afternoon I get a message from my friend Tara on MSN saying, ok change of plans I'm in labour NOW. Immediately I go into excitement mode thinking yay, we get to do it now and get it done and I can spend the rest of the week relaxing and enjoy the rest of Greg's time off and visit with a new baby etc. Here's how the night played out.....

Tara who has three other children aged 8, 3, and 2 was expecting her fourth and possibly final child. She had planned to deliver at home with the help of a midwife and myself. Her husband is in Afghanistan and won't be home until May 13th for his leave. I arrived at Tara's house and got the little kids bathed and settled for the evening so they could be put to bed, and we could get ready to set her up to have the baby. Now her longest labour from the very first pain to having the baby nursing was 3 hours...so being baby number 4 everyone figured it would be super fast. Here's the catch. ...on base, the midwives are not permitted to deliver a baby at home until no sooner than 37 weeks complete. She wouldn't be that until Thursday and this was Monday. Off to the hospital we went after labouring at home for two hours only to find she was only 3 cm, but a good 3. She did her medical history etc, (the midwife was out of town so she couldn't be there with us) and we warned the nurses that if the doctor can come break her water after a couple more cm, she would have the baby before midnight no problem. They told us that they won't just break her water for the hell of it, they would have to wait until 5 AM when the doctor makes his rounds....ugh. Long long night shorter, she ended up with her very first 13 hour labour, but was my absolute hero!! She was so quiet, no complaining, and only needed four shots of demerol to get through it. My friend Cindy and I were with her all night, and kept her hydrated, walked her, rocked her, and back rubbed until we thought our hands would fall off...lol..but it was all worth while because in the end, I got to experience what it was like to hold a baby's head as it was being delivered from it's mother, and I got to cut the umbilical cord. I was able to take her first pictures to make sure that her father had some way of feeling like he didn't quite miss everything. I was very honoured to be there, very honoured to take her pictures and I can't wait for them to come home so I can have my next "baby fix" lol In the mean time...I could use a nap! ;)

Meaghan Madison White :)

Just touching base :D

There's just something about sitting in my living room surrounded by four kids, on a cold crappy March afternoon watching the Lion King. The funny thing is I'm pretty sure if I had a historical crystal ball to look into, I could see a cold crappy March afternoon just like this one, but two less children, and the same movie. Matthew was a Lion King FANATIC! He watched it so much he wore out the VHS tape..lol We had to buy another one, and then when it came out on DVD we bought it there as well. I like to keep the classics around, plus movies like Lion King, LIttle Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast etc....they've been much watched to say the least! It's been a REALLY busy few weeks, and I haven't had time to really think much less post on here..LOL I'm hoping after Easter things will calm down a bit and we can get back to business! Hope everyone is enjoying spring!

My baby is two...

Well this is the first time since I started on LJ where I've posted with noise happening in my background. That noise would be my yappative (like my new word? talkative, and yet yappy at the same time? heehee) husband talking in the background, kids busily going about their business, and Dogs chewing on bones. It makes the flow a little harder to just flow, because I'm constantly distracted by things so I think in future I'll be posting at night in the quiet while he's watching one of his favourite shows, or when he's out playing with his little dark skinned friendly car nut. It's been fantastic to have him home, yet at the same time, quite the adjustment. I just can't seem to get out of my head that he's not going back, he's not just on vacation. It's been difficult, and I have caught myself at times, asking him not to change something because I need it to work when he's gone back....needless to say he gave ME a look, and I gave myself the look (inwardly of course..heehee)and was like...OOOPS. Gonna take some time I guess..lol

Jayden, my little monster like child. He turned two (as of yesterday) and both Greg and I can't believe how fast these two past years have gone by. He's turned into a little brown eyed clown that can NOT put aside his curiosity, nor his determination, and as a result has developed into quite the intelligent, resourceful child. Greg has enjoyed getting to know him all over again, although they have had their knock down drag out fights already (Hooaaa boy teenage years watchout!!). We were talking about the very first moment we saw/heard him. The day he was born was SO surreal and nerve wracking for Greg, he just didn't know what to expect. Jayden came out screaming his head off, and boy did he have a set of lungs. They picked him up and carried him over to the warmer, to check him out and weighed him and I remember Greg and I looking at each other going, "who's child is THAT??" he was HUGE....well huge by my standards considering my last child was 5lbs 3oz, and here he was weighing 9lbs 7oz. I was NOT expecting that to say the least...lol Over the last two years we've had some awesome times with our boy and it's been challenging dealing with him over the last six months to say the least, but he seems to be settling in nicely. I look forward to watching him grow over the coming years, and seeing how much of Greg and how much of me takes hold, and how much of Jayden himself develops :)

What I did on my Christmas Vacation....uh am I back in Grade 6??

Well it's been a while, and well quite obviously there's been some exciting things happenin. Where to begin....

Ok well let's start on December 22nd. (Some of you already know this story, one of you doesn't yet..lol)
It's the big day, I get the kids sorted out and figured out for childcare etc, Russia House ready to accept visitors and Christmas almost upon us, and Bailey all set up to be checked on by a good friend. Everything's packed for my action packed adventure, and honestly I was only hoping for a little adventure in the hotel room and NO where else.....how disappointed I was...lol

My friend Kate's husband was due in on the same day only different flight, same hotel, and uh definitely different room..lol We checked into our hotel rooms, and I started with a nice hot bath in the huge tub while watching TV. One thing apart from the size of the tub and the fact that the bed was about five feet away from it, was that I didn't hear constant knob turns, or knocks or little and sometimes not so little voices arguing from the other side. I wasn't quite sure what to think..lol The quiet was almost daunting, and it didn't help my nervousness at seeing him after four months apart. I got out of the tub, and actually fell asleep for half an hour (that was perfectly fine as I checked in at 2pm, and he wasn't supposed to arrive until 7:15pm (notice I said, supposed to). When I woke up I called my mom who lives like five minutes away and arranged to be at her place to have supper and then she was going to drive me to go pick him up at the appropriate time.

Supper was great, we sat and chatted for a bit, and then along with my step dad we headed to the airport to pick up my long awaited honey. Long awaited wasn't quite the word after the night was over...lol
Meanwhile I'm getting text messages from two of my friends, and a phone call from the other who's looking after Jayden. As it turns out, his flight had an issue, he was dropped off in Montreal but they were put on a bus and now he was going to be THREE HOURS LATE coming in. I was NOT happy, not in the least...lol However we went back to my mom's house to wait. I made an attempt to watch a movie with them, read a book and then finally got a txt message from Doug saying he called his place, and asked him to message me and have me meet him at the airport he was there right now. Well freezing rain be damned we were there immediately after that and he was finally home!!!

As I sit here on the day I dropped him back off where I picked him up.....I still replay that night in my head and wish I could go back, because seeing him again was so awesome, and it was fantastic having him home.

Skipping past alllll the fun...heehee...well maybe part of it because there was one thing that happened that night with a family rating that I thought was really sweet. We were really hungry in the middle of the night because he was wide awake and we decided to go get something to eat. The only thing open at 0230 was Denny's so we went in there, and ended up with a free meal once they heard that he had just come home from overseas. I thought that was awesome. Other than that we spent the following day Christmas shopping for the kids at Toys R Us and just enjoying each other's time together. Later that day though we headed back to my mom's house and enjoyed a nice reunion, and were there just in time for our appointment with a photographer from the Ottawa Citizen. This was a follow up picture to the spread that was in the paper back in November accompanying the article about "Quiet Warriors" the wives that are at home. We were so impressed with the picture I think we're going to order a copy to have.

We stayed overnight there that night and then travelled home the next day to enjoy Christmas Eve with the rest of our family, including my parents at Russia house until Boxing Day. He started getting nervous the closer we got to our house because his upcoming reunion with our son was a really scary one. Would he freak, and run away from him or would he run TO him and give him a hug.....as you can see below.....we had nothing to worry about

Christmas was strange this year, and although we were so happy to have everyone around us (really that was the best part of it all) it didn't feel like a normal Christmas. Was it the lack of snow? Was it that he was JUST home from being away for so long? Was it just the sheer number of people in a house we don't live in? I don't know, but I do know we still had a great time, and the kids were excited beyond belief.

He decided to tell Emily, that Santa had dropped him off at the airport on his way to another time Zone (hmmm...sounds weak to me..lol) and gave him an address and said that He and I had to go to this address to pick something up that he had arranged for all four of the kids. She was almost vibrating with excitement and even more so when we walked through the door with this.........
......Caesar. If you go by his hoity toity registered name it's Oakbow's Military Champion~Caesar..lol He's a ten week old purebred lab, and he's already fit right in quite nicely.

What a lot of travel we did.....Ottawa, back to Petawawa, to Oakville, Etobicoke, Oshawa, back to Petawawa, and then.......

Off to London and Petrolia as well as side trips to Sarnia for New Years.

Lots of fun with friends and some old acquaintances of his from "back in the day". I always laugh at that statement made by anyone younger than 50...lol
We stayed with the bestman at our wedding and his wife, in Petrolia, did some shopping in the States at a 361 day per year Christmas warehouse wonderland...it was FABULOUS for those of you fellow Christmas nuts...lol It was a fantastic time for the two of us on our own to catch up, enjoy our time together, and then be able to come home to our kids and enjoy them with rested, peaceful attitudes.
The last couple of days involved some Xbox360, organizing, doing little things, dance class for the girls, and not much else just to try and wind down and act normal for a couple of days. Was also good for getting the new puppy into a good routine.

Today was hard, I won't lie, and it sucked, and I let a couple of wet ones escape the tear ducts, but not a lot and just did my best to pick up and carry on and come home. Jayden, the puppy and I took him to Ottawa to my mom's house where she was going to take him to the actual airport so we could say our goodbyes in their house. I had to distract Jayden because he didn't want to let Daddy go, and was some upset, and it just sucked I guess there's no other way to say it. Then I finally get my wits about me and am just about to head on home with the kids, furry and non furry alike, and my mom calls. She sounds all down and dreary and I'm thinking, DO NOT DO THIS TO ME MOTHER. Next thing you know the waterworks start and I'm fighting really hard because NO one wants to hear their mom cry. Nevermind she's upset on my behalf because my husband just left to go back to a war zone again. I had to hand the phone off to my step dad, grab the kid and run to the van. Packed them all in well and then off I went. I made it about five minutes onto the major highway taking us home and Jayden picks that moment to toss his cookies and cry for Daddy. Life is getting SO much better at this point (sarcasm is lost in print sometimes I think..lol), and I'm thinking "I know there must be a light side to this, I hope I find it soon"

Maybe tomorrow?

44 days and counting......here we go again!
